October 29, 2009:

I'm looking to update the website a bit. Hopefully we can use this site to attract more members! If you have any photos of you or your teammates in action, or group photos of league members or tournaments, or pretty much anything league related (including photos of the bars), please send them to dave@kcbca.com. Suggestions on how to improve the site are always welcome.

From the BCA's website:

Phenolic Tip Rule

Effective June 1, 2009, the Official Rules of the BCA Pool League in “Equipment Specifications” under “Cues,” item d. states:

"The cue tip must be composed of leather, fibrous, or pliable material. Phenolic cue tips are not permitted.”

The BCA Pool League is amending this rule to state: “THE CUE TIP ON BREAK CUES MUST BE MADE OF LEATHER WITH NO NON-LEATHER MATERIALS ADDED TO THE CONTACTING SURFACE.” There have been questions asked, such as: “What if I break with my jump cue?” and similar questions. It is very simple. Whatever cue you break with must have a leather tip.

The reason for this rule is that the BCA Pool League has witnessed too many examples of damaged cue balls. After consultations with Aramith and Simonis, it has been determined the major contributing factor in cue ball damage is the hardness of the tip on break cues.

For several years the WPA has taken the position that the cue tip may not be of a material that can scratch or damage the cue ball. The BCAPL subscribes to the WPA philosophy.

This policy only applies to break cues. Jump cues are allowed to have a leather or non-leather tip - since it is difficult to stroke with enough force to cause damage.

This rule will be in effect at the BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships and regional tournaments that the BCAPL promotes. Promoters, directors and operators of events such as league play or local tournaments may alter the rules as they see fit.

June 19, 2009:

The 2009-2010 schedule is now up!

There will be a league meeting (all players, not just captains or board members) at the Granary on Sunday, July 12th, at 7:00PM. The purpose of this meeting is to address comments and concerns that have been brought up by league members. If you've got something you would like to share with the rest of the league, please be there. We encourage you to speak up and put your ideas on the table!

Highlights from the captain's meeting tonight:

   - Your team roster must be turned in ASAP if not already.
   - The roster must contain current phone numbers and addresses as well as the player's LEGAL name (no nicknames or "goes-by" names).
   - The BCA membership fee has changed to $15 from $10 in previous years. This was done by the BCA itself, not the Kings County chapter.
   - Weekly dues are still $5, which means the total for the first week of play will be $20.
   - Schedules, score sheets, and envelopes will be handed out on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. Lisa Casey will be at Huggy's at 6PM and at the Granary at 7:30PM. Make sure a team representative is able to pick up those items. We will get the schedule up on the site as soon as it is completed.
   - Score sheets are now in duplicate (carbon copies). Please make sure the score sheets are filled out completely and legibly. The captain will keep the bottom sheet and turn in the top sheet after each weekly match.

June 18, 2009:

The new season starts next Thursday, June 25! I will post the schedule up here as soon as I get it. Looking forward to a great season!

There is a captain's meeting tonight -- 7pm at the Granary.

June 8, 2009:

The site is coming along nicely. We've got all the 2008-2009 statistics up for view, and will be updating the site on a weekly basis once the 2009-2010 season starts.

I'm also thinking about starting a photo gallery. If you have pictures of you or your teammates in action on the felt, send them to dave@kcbca.com.

June 6, 2009:

We had a great turnout today for the end-of-season party and tournament at the Liquid Lounge. Congratulations to Zeke Salcedo for winning the tournament, and to all that received awards for their outstanding play during the season!

Congratulations also go out to Lisa Casey for being elected league Secretary and Treasurer, and to Angel Olivarez for being elected league Vice President.
